Brown, John H. A founding partner of Minnesota Oncology, passed away on November 23, 2014. The first independent private practice dedicated to the specialty of oncology on the Minneapolis side of the river was Oncologic Consultants, formed by Dr. John Brown, Dr. Ignatio Fortuny, and Dr. Burton Schwartz. The practice grew steadily over the next few years and expansion of sites continued in the evolution of today's Minnesota Oncology. In his career he has served as Chief of Staff of Methodist Hospital, President of the Minnesota Division of the American Cancer Society, President of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Oncology and Medical Director for the Virginia Piper Breast Center. He was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota and in his retirement found great joy in volunteering at the University's Raptor Center. Dr. Brown's memorial service will be held at Colonial Church in Edina on December 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. It is open to all who wish to attend.
