Olson Robert Peter Olson, formerly of Richfield, MN, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2005 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by loving wife, Carol; sons, Craig Olson (wife, Laura Nevius) and Eric (wife, Lisa Olson), and daughters Kathy Johnson (husband James Barnash) and Susan Melzer (husband Larry Melzer); brother, Lloyd Olson, sisters Lois Webb, Lillah Olson and Nellie Wegher; nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Christine, Andrew, Nathaniel, Ryan, Krista, Erin, Lauren and Madeline and many nieces and nephews. Robert was born Dec. 2, 1924 and attended high school in Moorhead, MN. He served in World War II and then continued his education following the war; graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Denver in 1952. After his undergraduate degree Robert worked in the food and hospitality industry. In the last twenty years of his career he taught at several area colleges and universities including the University of Minnesota, Stout State, and Metro State University. He earned an MBA from the University of Minnesota in 1982. A service celebrating his life will be held at Richfield United Methodist Church, 58th and Lyndale Ave. S. at 11:00 AM on Tuesday January 18. Visitation will be held at Morris Nilsen Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. S., Richfield on Monday from 5-8 PM. The family thanks the Minnesota Masonic Home Alzheimer staff and Hospice of the Twin Cities for their dedicated and compassionate care of Robert. Memorials may be sent to Minnesota Masonic Home, Hospice of the Twin Cities, Alzheimer's Association or Richfield United Methodist Church.
