Sawyer Charles M. "Pat" Sawyer, age 90, of Edina, passed away April 30, 2003. "...Pat's love for the game of golf was inspired by his father very early in life. Pat played in his first tournament at age 11, and by age 20 had won two Minnesota State Amateur championships, a state high school championship, two state junior championships, one Resorters crown and two Pine-to-Palms titles. He later captured five straight Resorters titles from `47 to `51, and `46 and `48 State Amateur championships. Pat was inducted into Minnesota PGA Hall of Fame in 1992, and the University of Minnesota "M Club" Hall of Fame in 2001. His love for the game stayed with him his entire life....". Preceded in death by wife, Jayne; stepson, Peter McDonald; brothers, Walter and Dick; and sister, Margaret Hughes. Survived by son, Mac I. Sawyer (Carole) of Lake Oswego, OR; stepson, Scott McDonald of Edina; grandson, Mark (Julia) of Madison, WI; 3 great- grandchildren, Mallory, Matthew and Kelly McDonald; niece, Carol Hollen (Jack) of Thousand Palms, CA; and nephews, Dick Sawyer Jr of Louisville, KY, Tom Sawyer (Janet) of Fresno, CA, Bob Hughes (Jackie) of St. Louis Park, and Jim Hughes of Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Williams Fund of University of Minnesota Athletic Dept. for the Golf Program, Bierman Field Athletic Building Suite 275, 516 - 15th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455. Private interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Mpls.
