Utter Richard Cartwright Utter, Sr. of Golden Valley, MN and Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully Dec. 13 while undergoing treatment for Parkinson‘s disease. He was born July 31, 1923 and lived 81 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Utter; his parents, Clay and Mabel Utter; brother, Clay Charles Utter; sister, Joyce Hapsch, and infant grandson, Kyle Utter. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses, Kent and Ethel Utter, Rick and Val Utter (of AZ), Kimberly and Robert Mackenzie, Karen Utter and Steve Woletz, and Katherine Utter and Peter Anderson (of MN). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Ryan, Maureen, Charlie, Bradley, Emily, Keith, Sarah, Lewis, Rachel, Dillon, Clay, Ruby and Joanna. Richard was a Navy Pilot in WWII and served honorably in the Pacific VPB 124 Squadron. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law. For 39 years he worked at Northrup King, & Co. He began in the Personnel Department, became a company attorney and later a Vice President and Director. He played a leading role in the acquisition of several seed companies for NK and helped to negotiate the sale of NK to Sandoz. He loved to golf and play cards, especially bridge, and was a member of the Minneapolis Golf Club and the Arizona Country Club. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, honest character, love of family, and courageous fight against Parkinson's. By his request, there will be no funeral or service, but there will be an open house memorial on Monday, Dec. 20 from 11 AM to 2 PM for close friends and family. It will be held at the home of his daughter, Kimberly's house in Brooklyn Park (763-425-0771). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Minnesota Medical Foundation, Dept of Neurology Parkinson's Research (800-922-1663) or to the Muhammad Ali Parkinson's Research Center (602-406-4931).
