Law Dr. William G. Law, age 95, of Edina passed away on 11/10/04. He was Senior Pastor of Edgewater United Methodist Church in Minneapolis from 1943 to 1957 and pioneered counseling methods on radio broadcasting with "The Pastor Comes Calling" which ran for fifteen years on area radio stations. He was born in Wingate, IN on May 29, 1909 and grew up in Methodist parsonages in eastern Washington State, graduated in three years from Puget Sound University and received his Masters degree in theology from Garrett Theological Seminary in 1933. He married Irene Jost on June 14, 1934. They were happily married for 59 years. He was granted a Doctor of Divinity degree by North Dakota Wesleyan College in 1952. Methodist churches he served were Newport, Morristown, Warsaw, Farmington, Rosemount, Edgewater in Minneapolis, First Methodist in Austin, and Hamline in St. Paul. He also served as District Superintendent of the St. Paul area. In retirement he served Asbury in St. Paul, and Arlington, two years as English professor at Rust College, Holly Springs, MS, and one year as English professor at Souchou University at Taipei, Taiwan. He was a Life Trustee of Hamline University. His ministry extended over 64 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene and sister Marjorie Merriman. He is survived by his sister Rose Miller, five adult children, Nicholas (Carolyn) of Minneapolis, Jonathan (Maryanne) of Austin, Deborah (James Kneen) of White Bear Lake, Peter (Susan) of Minneapolis, and Timothy (Linda) of Minnetonka, eighteen grand children and twenty-four great grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held. Memorials are preferred to Hamline University Endowment Fund, 1536 Hewitt Ave, St. Paul 55104, or to churches he served. His life has meant a witness to Christ, an insistence on justice, a towering indignation over the abuse of persons, the encouragement of excellence, and a stubborn sense of what is right.
