Schmidt, Ross D. age 90 of Star Prairie, WI and Chisago City, MN, passed away on October 18th 2014. He was born and grew up in Crookston, MN. Ross served in the U.S Army as a radio operator from 1942 to 1946 and was deployed in the Pacific during WWII. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico, Ross worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis where he helped design engine fuel and inset controls for the B58 bomber and rocket engine controls for various space missions. Later in life he also received Master's degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. His first wife, Helen Schmidt, his daughter Laurie Schmidt and his granddaughter, Sage Neibert, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Fern Schmidt, his daughters Donna Schmidt, Eileen Schmidt, Chris Lindquist and his son Ross Schmidt. Ross will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of the outdoors and his uncanny ability to acquire a skill with little to no practice (to the frustration of many of his peers and family). He will be missed. Memorial service at Lakewood Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN on Thursday, October 23rd at 2:00. No flowers, please. Memorials can be sent to Nature Conservancy, 1101 West River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55415 in memory of Ross Schmidt.
