Matson Gale W. Matson, age 76, died October 7 of Alzheimer's disease at Mt. Olivet Careview Home with his family at his side. He was born in Winona, MN to Bernard & Esther Matson who preceded him in death. After graduating from high school he served in the Navy and then attended St. Olaf college where he received a BA degree in 1952. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota where he received a PhD. in organic chemistry in 1956. After starting his career as a chemist with ADM, he worked for over 30 years at 3M Co. in research and product development where he received patents recognition. He retired in 1991. He was a 50 year member of the American Chemical Society and an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, MaryAnn Cart Matson. Also survived by children and grandchildren, Paul & Jodi Matson and their children, Tom, Laura, Kristin, David and Lisa; Karen & Kenneth Abdo and their children, Jacob, Matthew, Mari and Rose; Kristin Wilson and her children, Kelly, Nicole and Mackensie; Thomas & Jennifer Matson and their children, Drew, Zachary and Eleanor; Timothy & Louise Matson. Also aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is cherished and will be missed by those who love him. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Service 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 12. Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave. So., Minneapolis. Private family burial Wednesday morning Lakewood cemetery.
