Jorgensen Folmer G., age 92, formerly of West Palm Beach, Perrine, and Wellington, Florida and Edina, Minnesota, passed away on Sept. 2, 2004. Folmer was born in Faribault, MN in 1912, the youngest child of Johanna Gram Jorgensen and Christian William Jorgensen, Danish immigrants who came to the U.S. around 1900. Folmer started his career as a line mechanic in Minneapolis in 1943 with Northwest Airlines and retired as a Vice President of Maintenance for the Southern Region. He first worked on a wide range of aircraft including Ford Tri-Motor Aircraft in 1943 through today's Boeing 747's. During his tenure with NWA, he opened many new locations worldwide. Throughout his distinguished 35 year career with Northwest, he worked in Minneapolis, New York City, Japan and Miami. He was in Miami with his family until he retired from Northwest in 1978. After retirement he worked for Batch Air as Vice President of Maintenance in Miami where, among other things, he negotiated aircraft sales and maintenance to the Chinese government. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Coyne Jorgensen; his parents; his sister, Alice Brown; his brother, Henry and his niece, Candy Sweeney. He is survived by his children, Gayle (Don) Chapman of Brooklyn Park, Bill (Jody) Jorgensen of Wellington, FL; his grandchildren, Joe and Katherine Chapman, and Adam and Meagan Jorgensen; his sister, Lelia Bobier; his brother-in-law, George Coyne; niece, Nancy Thurlow, and their families. Folmer had a full life. He traveled over most of the world while working in the airlines industry. He had been a Commander of the Homestead Florida Power Squadron, owned a second home in Key Largo, and maintained his membership in the Edina Masonic Lodge. Most recently he was living in the Fountainview Community of West Palm Beach. Folmer was especially known for his personality and sense of humor. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, a loyal husband, and a good friend to many. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
