Gerald Opal Dutton Gerald, 96, recently of Richfield, formerly of Robbinsdale and Minneapolis, died on March 14, 2002. Predeceased by her husband of 71 years, J. Edward Gerald, emeritus professor, University of Minnesota, School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Survived by son, James, Long Beach, CA; daughter, Patricia Bourne; and granddaughter, Jane Gerald Carr, San Francisco, CA. She was a native of Texas and a graduate of West Texas State College. She received the Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Missouri. In Minneapolis she was active in the leadership of the University Faculty Women's Club (president 1962-64), the World Affairs Council and the Women's United Nations Rally Committee. She authored the chapter on magazine controls in her husband's ``The British Press Under Government Economic Controls'' (University of Minnesota Press, 1956).
