Joe Byrd

Byrd Joe Byrd passed away peacefully from cancer on March 8, 2002 in his Naples, FL home with loved ones by his side. Born Oct. 31, 1926. Moved to Minneapolis, MN and married Marion Paulson, who preceded him in death in 1968. Joe will be missed by his former wife, Betty Byrd of FL; sister, Betty McCray of GA; nephews, Greg and Harold Paulson of Mpls; niece, Linda Wilson of CA; stepson, Walt Whitaker of Mpls; and several other nieces and nephews. Served in the Navy during WWII. Joined the Construction and General Laborers Local #563 in 1946, elected Business Agent in 1966, Financial Secretary in 1972, and retired in 1988. Joe was former Secretary Treasurer of the MN State Building Trades Council. Moved to Naples FL in 1994. Worked at Royal Wood golf course up to two weeks prior to becoming ill. His illness was brief and he died painlessly. Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Mpls. He was loved and will be missed by all.
