Costello, Howard J. Age 87, of Stillwater, passed away unexpectedly on Septem-ber 15, 2014. Preceded in death by wife Eudora; infant son, John; parents Joseph & Florence. He will be deeply missed by wife of 25 years, Carol; children, Scott (Pam), Tom (Wendy), Sue (Mark) Bonitz; step-children, Lynn (Gary Howe), Bruce (Lori), Kristin, and David (Wendy) Hagstrom and many grandchildren and great-grand-children. Howard graduated from Murray High School in St. Paul in 1944. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. Earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1949 and Masters Degree in social welfare from the UC Berkeley in 1954. Employed by the MN Dept of Corrections for 42 years as a parole and probation officer, prison administrator, Chairman of the State Parole Board, and Deputy Commissioner of Corrections. At retire-ment in 1992 he had the longest tenure of any Deputy Commissioner in the state government. His greatest passions were his family and spending time with them at the lake. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11 AM at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 6201 Osgood Ave. N., Stillwater with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
