Matson, Rebecca Metcalf Age 80, of Edina. Died of cancer September 13, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim Matson, and four daughters, sons-in-law and ten grandchildren; Anne (Brian) Marty, Elizabeth and Daniel from Saint Louis; Mary (Stuart) Latta, Carolyn and James from Virginia; Margaret (John) Peters, Michael, Katherine, Thomas and Joseph from Pittsburgh; and Catherine (Matt), Dubbe, Sam and Tessa from Edina. Rebecca was born in Primghar, Iowa to James and Mary Metcalf July 3, 1934. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Journalism. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Theta Sigma Phi, professional journalism honorary. The friendships of her youth remained strong throughout her life. In 1956 she married Jim Matson of Edina. She worked as a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin from 1957-1959 while he served in the Army. Rebecca remained active in Kappa Alpha Theta ail her life, serving as Membership Chairman in several states and as a campus advisor. They built a life and raised a family together in cities where Jim's job responsibilities took them, including Cleveland, Minneapolis, El Paso, St. Louis, Toronto and finally their return to Minneapolis. She encouraged her four daughters to grow and become strong and principled women. She served on several boards, including Grace Hill Settlement House in St. Louis. She was a member of The Junior League of Minneapolis and an early member of LeagueAires, the Junior League singing group that performs for the disadvantaged and older adults. Rebecca loved cooking, especially her signature recipe for pasties, inherited from her great-grand-parents who were lead miners in Yorkshire, England. She loved to travel throughout the world and especially enjoyed exploring food markets in exotic places. Her Celebration of Life service is at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4439 West 50th, Edina Thursday, September 25th at 2:00 pm. Memorials preferred to N.C.
