Seim Pauline A. Seim Pauline was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Decorah, IA. She passed away May 26, 2004 in St. Paul, MN. Pauline attended Luther College in Decorah, IA for one year and then received her Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN. in1948. She received a Fulbright scholarship to study voice in Vienna, Austria in 1956. We all knew and loved Pauline not only for her lustrous, beautiful, Nordic voice, but also for her laughter, the stories she told on herself with such relish, her obvious joy sharing an evening with close friends, and her life-long passion for music. As a mezzo- soprano and soprano her professional background included opera, concerts, recordings, Broadway, television and teaching. She performed opera at Carnegie Hall, as well as premiering in two operas: "The Dress" and "Sweet Betsy from Pike" in New York City. Pauline gave recitals in New York City and Bermuda, was a soloist in New York City churches and synagogues and made a recording of Sunday school songs. On Broadway she performed in "The Lark" under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, performed as a soloist at Radio City Music Hall, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein Talent Review of 1955. She taught speech at the American Academy of Performing Arts in New York City, and voice at St. Olaf College from 1965-68. From 1988-2001 she was secretary to the director of R&D at St. Jude Medical in Little Canada, MN. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents Lars and Sylvia Seim, her sister Ruth Steneroden and many close friends. She is survived by her sister Kathryn Sovran of Troy, MI, brother-in law Gino Sovran, nephews Daniel, Ralph and Andrew Sovran, Eric Steneroden and nieces Victoria McCuish and Katie Steneroden along with many, many grand-nieces, grand- nephews, friends and colleagues. A Memorial Service celebrating Pauline's life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, on Aug. 7th at 11:00 a.m., 4100 Lyndale Ave. S., Mpls., MN 55409. A reception will follow in the church.
