Ekrem Norvin Edward died peacefully at North Memorial Hospice on February 24, 2003 after a relatively brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jane. A family memorial service and celebration of his life took place on March 1. Norv is survived by his daughter, Betty Ekrem Wallin (Jerry) and grandson, Andrew of Golden Valley; his son, Dr. Frederic (Pat) Ekrem of Eau Claire, WI and their children, David, Daniel and Joanna of Mpls; on the West coast he is survived by brother, Peter; sister, Shirley; and many dear nieces and nephews who knew him as "Uncle Bud."Norv was born in Mobridge, SD on 5/16/ 1916. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in Civil Engineering. He was employed by the Great Northern Railway and eventually became their chief bridge engineer. He continued in that role with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe until he retired in 1977. Norv had been active in the Masons and was past master of Braden Masonic Lodge 168 of St Paul. In the 1980s he participated in the People to People Ambassador program to China. Norv & Jane loved time with family and friends, fishing, traveling, and winters in Arizona with his West Coast family. His family sends their heartfelt thanks to Heathers Manor for bringing him such happiness in the last two years.
