Stover John Joseph, son of David and Violet (Kelley) Stover was born Feb. 3, 1931 in Newton, IA. At an early age, he moved from Newton to Columbia Heights, MN. In the early 1950's, John entered the U.S. Army and served with the 11th Airborne Division. When he was discharged from the Army, he went to work for the Northern Pacific & Burlington Northern Railroads for over 30 years. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and going for walks with his black Lab. He died Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Minnewaska District Hospital in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 72 years. He is survived by his son, Marvin J. Stover of Columbia Heights; his ex-wife and friend, Eleanor Stover of Columbia Heights; brothers, Harley (Mary Lou) Stover of Columbia Heights, Marvin R. (Joanne) Stover of Brooklyn Center and Russell (Niela) Stover of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard, and his black Lab, Smokey. Memorial service Friday, March 14, 2003, 2 PM at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, MN, with Rev. Philip Reimers officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service at funeral home. Honorary pallbearers for the service are all who called John friend.
