Degerness Alvin, 91, Twin Valley, MN, formerly Gary, MN, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND. He was born on February 26, 1912 on the family farm of Andreas Degerness and Martha Vikeness Thompson Degerness. He grew up, was married and raised his family on that same farm. He attained his high school and agricultural education at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. He learned piano tuning at the MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis. . He served in the Army Engineering Corp during WWII doing basic training in Louisiana and serving in Hawaii, Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines and Japan. On December 26, 1945, Alvin married Babe Roisum. They lived together on the farm near Gary, for forty-seven years, until Babe moved to the nursing home in 1993. Alvin and Babe leave five sons, Jerome (K.C. McKenna), Woodbury, MN, Marvin (Clare), Moorhead, MN, Randolph (Randa), Denver, CO, Raymond, Blue Ball, PA and Daniel (Joan), Fargo, ND. They leave ten grandchildren: Sonja Degerness, Krista Degerness, Kari Degerness, Liv Degerness, Megan (Mitch) Harris, Jillian Degerness, John Degerness, Jordan Degerness, Walker Degerness and Parker Degerness. They leave one great-grandson, Caleb Vosgien. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, at 11 AM in Sundal Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, from 4 PM until 7 PM with a prayer service at 6 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, MN & one hour before services at the church on Friday.
