Hansen Hazel B. Hansen, 93, most recently of St. Paul, died Mar. 4, 2003. Hazel was an independent woman, a devout Lutheran, and a lover of everything Norwegian. She was a labor economist in the Women's Bureau, U.S. Dept. of Labor, retiring in 1974. In her words, her job was, "To advance the welfare and economic status of working women." Active in Lutheran congregations in her hometown of St. Cloud and the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. A lifelong member of the Sons of Norway and an international traveler who encouraged others to learn about the larger world. Many students benefited from her support of global studies at St. Cloud State Univ. and the reference library is named in her honor. Survived by brother, Henry (Charlotte); nephews, Trygg, David (Karen Lilley) and Mark (Brenda); grandnephews, Trygve (Jeanne), Per, Kip and Kell, and grandniece, Britta; and great-grandniece, Chloe. Hazel will be missed by friends in St. Cloud, Washington, D.C., Presbyterian Home of Arden Hills & friends across the country.
