Young, Pastor Dallas W. died peacefully early Saturday morning, August 16, 2014. Dallas grew up on a dairy farm near Amor, MN, the son of Esther and Leonard Young. His parents inspired and encouraged a world of possibility well beyond rural Otter Tail County. After graduating from Battle Lake High School, he volunteered for and served in the Navy at the end of WWII. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, completed seminary at Augustana, Rock Island, IL, and continued his post seminary study at Union Seminary, Columbia, NYC, while serving a church in the Bronx. His active ministry brought him to serve congregations in Sioux Falls, SD (Mission developer, St. Mark's Lutheran), Brainerd, MN (First Lutheran), Stockholm, Sweden; (United Christian Congregation); and Fargo, ND (Elim Lutheran). He lived his personal and professional life in the spirit of the Augustana Lutheran Synod and carried forward all of its best ideals: faith in daily life, service to others, respectful dialog, and advocacy for social justice. He was married to Phyllis M. Young (1925-2010) for 58 years. They actively engaged and served in leadership positions in the communities in which they lived. Curious travelers, they explored the lengths of the country and four corners of the world, but treasured most their lake side cabin retreat near Brainerd. He loved his four sons and their families; Jon (Anita), Steven (Stacie), David and Thomas (Meredith). He found joy in his grandchildren Timothie Ann, Tyler (Tara), Carson, Graeme, Genevieve, Janelle, Carl-Erik, Olivia, Sydney; great-grandchildren Henry and Helen. Celebration of life service Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 AM, Peace Lutheran Church, 8600 East Bush Lake Road, Bloomington, MN. Service preceded with an open house "Fika" at 10am and lunch to be served after. His family extends a special thank you to the staff of Friendship Village and Fairview Hospice for their care and love. If so desired, memorials may be directed to Gustavus Adolphus College.
