Solhaug Marjorie H. Solhaug passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2003 at North Memorial Hospital. Margie was born on October 21, 1922 in Osakis, MN, the oldest child of Carl & Myrtle Hanson, and grew up immersed in a Norwegian cultural heritage. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Dr. Samuel B. Solhaug, Jr. Margie most of all cherished being with her family and friends. Her husband Sam was the true love of her life. Her children and grandchildren brought her great joy, and they all have benefitted immeasurably from her courage, perseverance, and boundless devotion. She had a unique way of making everyone she knew feel special. Margie had an amazing ability to become a friend to all she met. Everyone who knew her saw the twinkle in her eye and experienced her fun sense of humor. She especially enjoyed the camaraderie for over 40 years with her Kenwood sewing club. Margie was a long-standing and loyal member of the Minneapolis Woman's Club, and faithfully served for many years on the Altar Guild of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Minneapolis. She adored her new-found friends at Friendship Village, Bloomington. Margie is survived by her 6 loving children, Dr. Michael (Sylvia) Solhaug, Virginia Beach, VA, Arthur (Kris) Solhuag, Whitefish, MT, Mary (David) Perkins, Edina, MN, Kirsten (Dr. Jon) Nielsen, Orono, MN, Martin (Nancy) Solhaug, Mpls, MN, Sam Solhaug, London, England; 8 grandchildren, Rani Solhaug, Kristofor Solhaug, Anna (Nielsen) and husband Mark Peterson, Andrew Nielsen, John Solhaug, Erik Solhaug, Jennifer Perkins and Steve Perkins; 1 great-grandchild due in May; 3 brothers, Arthur (Marilyn) Hanson, Bloomington, MN, Carl "Bud" (Shirley) Hanson, Littleton, CO, and Eugene Hanson, Cottage Grove, MN. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff, employees, and residents of Friendship Village, Bloomington. You filled Margie's last years with happiness. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village, 8100 Highwood Dr., Bloomington on Friday, February 28 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, refer memorials to the North Memorial Hospice, 3200 Oakdale Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN 55422. A private interment will be held at Lakewood Cemetery, Mpls.
