Richard Bradley Fryer, of Minnetonka. Born February 8, 1930 in Rochester, MN. Died February 22, 2002 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO from the sudden onset of viral encephalitis. Survived by loving family, Marilyn, wife of 48 years; 2 daughters, Cindy Feldmeier (Steven Schmirler) & Suzanne Wanous (Michael); 5 grandchildren, Meghan & William Feldmeier & Kristina, Kimberly & Steven Wanous. Also survived by 2 brothers & 3 sisters; nieces & nephews & special pal ''Mitzi.'' Dick spent 4 years in the Navy during the Korean conflict as an electronic technician. He served on the USS Los Angeles where he was responsible for the repair of the radar equipment. After obtaining his Electrical Engineer degree from University of Illinois in 1957, he went to work for Honeywell for 34 years, specializing in the field of design and development of magnetic-based computer memories. Dick participated in the development of a special memory capable of fulfilling the computer memory needs of the first vehicle to land on Mars (The Viking Lander). He also developed many magnetic based sensors and held four patents directly related to this work. He achieved Senior Research Fellowship status prior to retirement from Honeywell. Dick was Grand Knight of the Hopkins chapter of Knights of Columbus for 2 consecutive terms. After retirement from Honeywell, Dick spent his time in his wood working shop and building a cabin in Hackensack, MN. ``Opa'' spent many happy hours with his family at the cabin fishing, boating & relaxing. Dick completed a history of the Fryer/Snow families dating from the 1500's to the present. This was published & distributed to family members prior to Christmas, 2001. Dick made the benches located in the infant room of the Church of St. Therese; he made each of his grandchildren a hope chest. Special thanks to the entire staff of the neurology units at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. You were the angels of kindness and we'll never forget your loving care for both Richard & his family. Also, our thanks to all who prayed & supported us during the 3 weeks of his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or donor's choice. Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, February 28, 2002 at The Church of St. Therese, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd, Deephaven (952) 473-4422) at 11 AM. Visitation at the church at 9:30 AM.
