Helgerson, Stanley G. Age 97, long time resident of Hopkins, MN, peacefully passed away Sat., July 26. Stan is survived by his two sons, Larry & Ron, grandchildren Eric & Allison, and great- grandchild, Nevaeh. He is prede-ceased by sister, Elaine and twin brother, Stacey, and wife of 47 years, Floreine. Stan was born in Pierre, SD July 17, 1917 to Gus & Blanche Helgerson. He served in the CCC in the Black Hills and after returning to Sioux Falls he attended Augustana College and later met his bride to be. They traveled to California where they married and he later enlisted in the Navy, serving for multiple years aboard the USS New Orleans, a heavy cruiser in the south Pacific during WWII. With war's end, they returned to the Midwest, took up farming in S MN and then moved to Hopkins in 1951. A decade later he was postmaster in Hopkins. Stan had good people skills and was also working in the mechanical design field when he and Don Strom collaborated to recruit and place engineering talent on jobs. He retired in 1986 and he & Flo travelled frequently and would then winter in Florida. Stan was a member of the American Legion and VFW and a member of Gethsemane since their long ago move to Hopkins. Services will be Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11 am at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Rd., Hopkins, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be later at Ft.
