Coughlan Daniel Joseph, 77, a Mankato businessman and justice advocate, died Saturday, Feb. 8 at his home on Lake Washington. Best known as owner of the Mankato Stone Company but most proud of passing the bussing bill in 1969 that guaranteed free bussing to all students regardless of school choice. Founding member of the MN Chapter of Citizens for Educational Freedom. Interests include: love of travel, different cultures and his dedication to the Catholic Church. Born in Mankato he married Dorothy Reardon in 1951. Dan Coughlan will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothy; their 11 children, Michael, Maura, Eileen, David, Jean, Paul, Bridget, Martha, Sheila, Patricia and Dan; 28 grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Coughlan, CSJ, and Maura Robertson. Funeral service at 11 am Thurs. at St. John's Church, Mankato. Visit. 5-8 pm Wed. and 1 hour before funeral at Landkamer, Johnson & Bowman Funeral Home.
