Upham, Mira Grace age 98, of Southwest Minneapolis passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 9th, 2017. Married to Harry G. Upham for 58 years. Born in Appleton WI and raised in Menominee, MI., her parents died when she was very young and she, along with her brothers and sisters, were taken in by Ms. Frances Radford, who was the principle of Menominee High School. Mom was a St. Catherine Graduate and RN at Abbot Hospital, until Feb. 1945 when she was commissioned a 2nd LT. in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. After boot camp she served at Schick General, in Clinton Iowa, treating wounded WWII soldiers. Her unit was preparing to ship out to the Pacific theater when they dropped the bomb. Mom married Harry G. Upham, a handsome and dashing RCAF pilot in Oct. 1945. Together, they raised 3 boys, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and numerous turtles, birds and goldfish over the next 50 years. Moved into Brookdale Edina in 1995. Mom enjoyed bowling, golfing, flowers, ceramics, writing, Elvis, and volunteer work at the Red Cross and Minneapolis VA. Thank you Mom, for all the chocolate chip cookies you baked and sent to us while we were serving in Vietnam. Proceeded in death by husband Harry in 2003 and son Bill in 2009. Snelling National Cemetery next Spring.
