Gudmundson, Barbara Jane Rohrke age 90, died peacefully Nov. 7, 2017 at Jones-Harrison Residence in Mpls. Preceded in death by her loving husband Emil of 31 years, sister Nan, & half-sister Manya. Born in Chicago and raised in Tenn. Earning a Ph.D. in Botany and Water Resources from Iowa State Univ. in 1969, she worked in related positions and earned 2 Fulbright appts. in Iceland on diatoms. She was involved in DFL politics to women's rights, the environment, social justice, and, as a tribute to her husband's heritage, Icelandic cultural heritage. Loving to travel, she became a travel agent and traveled extensively worldwide. A lover of animals, music, dance, the arts, ginkgos, hamburgers and ice cream. Lifelong Unitarian-Universalist and current member of First Unitarian Society, Mpls. Survived by twin daughters Marti Gudmundson (Nick Molenaar) of Caldwell, Idaho, and Holly (Jim) Leighton of Mpls.; brother-in-law Les Gudmundson of Lundar, MB; 2 cousins, and 4 nieces/nephews.
