Klein Lothar Karl Klein, Ph.D. It is with sadness, but with thanks for a life well-lived, that the Klein family announces the death of Lothar Karl Klein, 71, cherished husband and father, composer and professor. One of Canada's most renowned composers, Lothar died at Toronto General Hospital on January 3, 2003. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Frima Karon; his two sons, Eric and David, and his daughters-in-law, Kimberly and Charlene, to whom he is an inspiration and a source of strength. He is also survived by Naomi, his one-month-old granddaughter. He will be remembered with love and affection by friends and relatives in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Lothar was born in Hanover, Germany in 1932, and in 1958, married his beloved Marjorie, since deceased. He received his Ph.D. in Musicology and Composition from the University of Minnesota. In 1969 he became a Professor of Composition at the University of Toronto where he also served as Chairman of Graduate Studies in Music. His large and varied body of works has been performed by the world's foremost conductors, orchestras and artists. As a professor, Lothar encouraged independence in his students. As a husband, father, friend and mentor, Lothar encouraged an appreciaton of life, culture, and history. He will be dearly missed.
