Arliene Marie Gaarder

Gaarder Arliene Marie Gaarder, passed on January 7, 2002 in Spartanburg, SC. She was born in New York City and raised in Northwood, Iowa, the daughter of Mrs. Emma Brunsvold. In 1932, she married George Gaarder of Northwood, later moving to Minneapolis where she was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Scout Leader, and employee of Minneapolis Housing Authority. The Gaarders retired to Lakeland, FL in 1977 where they were avid golfers and active members of Faith Lutheran Church. Widowed in 1989, Mrs. Gaarder remained in Lakeland until declining health necessitated a move near family in Southport, NC where she was a member of St. Philips Church. She had been a resident of Park Place Assisted Living, Spartanburg, SC at the time of her death. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and John Price, Southport, NC, Mary and Ken Nielsen, Lilburn, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Bruce and Linda Gaarder, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service was held at Park Place, January 11. Memorials may be directed to the organization of choice.
