Schmitt, Paul H. Our dearly loved, Paul, age 77, passed away August 9, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents the Rev. Herman and Ollie (Monk) Schmitt. Survived by his wife, Susan Scheefe; children, Gretchen (Kirk Honour) Schmitt, Dietrich (Tracy) Schmitt, and Heidi (Peter) Young-dahl; grandchildren, Lydia and Westly Schmitt, and Luke, Olivia and Elsa Youngdahl; siblings, Don (Karen) Schmitt, Joanne Schmitt. The strong faith Paul often shared through family prayers was shaped growing up in a Lutheran parsonage in Wells, MN. He graduated from Wartburg College which increased his faith and his interest in his German heritage. Starting his career at the St. Paul YMCA, Paul became a skilled fundraiser. His creativity and mentoring spirit advanced the planned giving programs at St Paul Children's Hospital, the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Olaf College. Paul loved his family, music, nature and bird watching, planting trees, building trails, gardening and philanthropy which have left a legacy for all to appreciate. Memorial Service Wednesday, August 16 at Mt Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave. S. Mpls. Visitation 3 pm and service 4 pm.Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association, Walker Care Suites of Edina, Cathedral of the Pines or donor's choice.
