Hackel, Kathryn Ann age 86, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017, in St. Paul surrounded by her children. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on May 27, 1930 to George Raymond and Alice Rosemund Lyman. After attending business school in Minneapolis, she worked for Milwaukee Railroad, a job she enjoyed during her single years. She met and married her husband, Bob Hackel, in 1955. Together they raised seven highly-spirited children. Kathryn possessed the ability to keenly observe the world around her and articulate, with sharp wit and humor, a certain truth about any situation. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Joseph Hackel, and daughter Mary Frances Schmitz. Survived by children, Jane Hackel, Maureen Martin, Kathleen Conroy, Richard Hackel, Ellen (Tim) Schmitz, Carol (Tony) Horton, 18 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Irish wake to be held 5-8 p.m. on May 30th at Wise Family Funeral, 400 Spring Street, Hastings, 55033. Mass of the Christian Burial 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 31st, at church of St. Albert the Great, 2836 33rd Avenue S, Minneapolis, 55406. Visitation to be held at the church prior to mass from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Reception at the church immediately following Mass. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
