Edward Derheim, 75, was born 2/24/26 in rural Sheridan County near McClusky, ND. He could only speak German when first attending a one-room school, where he completed the 8th grade. He worked for neighboring farmers from the age of 9 years old until entering the Army during WWII. He served as an interpreter in the European area 1944-46. Shortly after returning to ND, he married Edith Braunberger. They farmed and had 4 children, Delmar, Dennis, DeEtta and Darla. In 1952, the family moved to Mpls where he worked at lumber yards and was a taxi driver. After their divorce, he married Betty Magnan in 1960 and was step-father to Tim, Loretta, Don and DeDe. Together they had Ned, Nelly and Bruce. So, he was ``Dad'' to 11 children; ``Grandpa'' to 19; and ``Great-Grandpa'' to 15 (soon-to-be 17). He worked as a lift-operator/scaler at G.M. Stewart Lumber Co. (now Shaw Lumber Co.) in Mpls for over 35 years, retiring in 1986. Moved to Wilton, ND in 1989 for summers and Apache Jct., AZ for winter months. Ed was hard-working, had a great sense of humor, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed by numerous relatives, neighbors and friends. Preceded in death by his parents (Magdelena Bonnet & Christ Derheim); daughter, Darla; stepson, Don; brothers, Wilbur, Art, Walter, Christ; sisters, Martha & Emma. Survived by his wife of 41½ years, Betty; remaining sons and daughters (above); brothers, Oswald (Ike), Leonard, Reuben, Donald and sister, Bertha. Passed away 1/17/02 at Neely Ray Hospice House in Gilbert, AZ. Funeral service 2 PM Tuesday (1/22) at Crystal Lake Funeral Home, corner of Penn & Dowling Aves N., Mpls. Visitation one hour before service at the funeral home. Interment Morningside Memorial Gardens, 11800 University Ave NW, Coon Rapids, MN. Arrangements by Crystal Lake Funeral Hm. 612-521-3677
