John B. McGillivary

McGillivary, John B. Age 54 of Minneapolis passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2017 in Chicago. Preceded in death by parents, Mary Alice and Neil McGillivary. John spent 30+ years in the Professional Liability Insurance Industry. Most recently John worked for AmTrust Underwriters in Chicago but also worked for other companies in IL, MN, NY, VA and CO. John was an avid runner and completed many marathons. He combined his passion for running with his passion for helping others through volunteer work with Southwest High School Cross Country Team, Twin Cities in Motion and Back On My Feet, Chicago. He did volunteer work with many other organizations as well and his activities ran the gamut from cleaning up the banks of the Mississippi to serving meals to those who needed them. John was a good, good man. John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Liz, and their sons Ian, Andrew and Conor; sister Leslie Humphries (Don); father-in-law Tom Hanley, sisters-in-law Stacy Hanley and Katie Cromer (Fred); brother-in-law Charlie Hanley (Heather). John was also the VERY proud uncle of 6 nieces: Fiona, Larkin, Clementine, Lauren, Caroline and Allie. John was a loving husband, father and friend who was loved in return. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 11 at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, 4901 Chowen Ave., S., Minneapolis, MN 55410. Visitation at 2pm, Service at 3pm, reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Twin Cities in Motion or Back On My Feet, Chicago.
