Monk Donald Monk Sr., age 74, of Mankato, died at the Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital on Saturday, January 5, 2002. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 9 at 11:00 AM at Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Church with Reverend Ted Hottinger officiating. Burial will be on Thursday at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials preferred to Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Mankato, or Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Donald was born on May 1, 1927 in Hopkins to Benjamin and Lillian (Johnson) Monk. Donald served in the Navy during World War II. July 19, 1951 was the day that Donald married Mary Ann Stang in Hopkins. He also graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951. Donald worked for NSP in Minneapolis. He moved to Mankato in 1972, where he was the business operations manager. He retired from NSP after 36 years. Donald was a member of St. Peter and Paul's, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #11. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and reading. Donald is survived by his spouse; two daughters, Susan and her husband John Kjos of Mankato, Kathryn Wright of Edina; one son, Donald Jr. and his wife Karen of Eden Prairie, and five grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Andrew, Ryan, and Haley. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Duane and one son, Thomas.
