Halpin, Myra Belle age 83, serenely passed away, in her sleep, on Monday (Jan. 16, 2017) after succumbing to a short battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:15 am, Saturday, January 28 at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040. Visitation one hour before mass. Luncheon for family and friends immediately after the service. Myra was born on October 6, 1933 to Myra Belle and Charles F. Halpin of Gary, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her loving siblings Alice Catherine Halpin, Charles Halpin and Ellen Firme. She graduated from High School in Gary and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Mary Manse College (Toledo, Ohio) and a Master of Public Administration degree from Hamlin University (St. Paul, MN). Myra devoted her life to helping others. She enjoyed a distinguished, 36 year career in the American Red Cross. Korea, Guam and Germany were a few of her international posts while Washington D.C., Dallas and Minneapolis / St. Paul were cities among her American based positions. She retired in December, 1993 and used Indianapolis, Indiana as a home base to be near family, although continued volunteering with the Red Cross and F.E.M.A. on national disaster relief. Myra was a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security, a member of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Society and was awarded a Kentucky Colonelship. She profoundly affected the lives of countless people in so many ways. Her infectious smile and vibrant personality could move mountains but, most importantly Myra was always a steadfast, devoted and loving friend to all she met. It is said that everyone who ever came in contact with Myra has a beautiful story to tell about her. Myra is survived by sister-in-law Helen Halpin; and nieces and nephews: Joseph and Michele Halpin, Charles Halpin, Mary Helen (Halpin) and Steve Williams, Ann (Halpin) and Dan Bell, Leo Firme and Mary Fox, Theodore and Egle Firme, Kevin Firme and Dennis and Beverly Firme. Her family and cherished friends will continue to count the blessings she has brought to their lives.
