Pepin, Gertrude Passed away on December 5, 2016 at the age of 96. Preceded in death by husband, Lawrence. Survived by son, Duane (Wendy). Gertrude Buhl was born on July 1, 1920 on a farm near Browerville in central Minnesota. She said that life was difficult during the Great Depression but that being farmers they always had food on the table. The farm equipment was pulled by horses. The family spoke Polish as did many of their neighbors while other neighbors spoke German. Gert worked during World War II, operating a machine lathe tool in an armaments factory putting in extraordinarily long days and months. She married Lawrence Pepin after he returned from 3 years of fighting in World War II. They settled in south Minneapolis. Gert worked for many years at Olsen's Super Value grocery store on 34th Avenue. Gert loved to walk around Lake Nokomis. After Lawrence died, Gert moved to a condo in Richfield. She missed her garden but she enjoyed the freedom of condo life and travelled the country with her friends making numerous stops in Las Vegas. Gert always said that life is short so don't waste it. Make good memories to look back on during old age. Private family service.
