Drake-Garneau, Jayne Age 101, of Edina, formerly of Mpls. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. Preceded in death by husband Marshall, parents Dr. Charles and Ruth Drake, mother-in-law Mildred Garneau, and brother Ted. Survived by daughter Marilyn and son Marshall Jr., sister Marilyn Sisler and brother Dr. Robert Drake, brother-in-law Al Donahoo, many nieces and nephews, her beloved Yum Yum the Siamese and Raven the Poodle. And finally, special friends Inez and Bob and Joan. Jayne was born on Oct. 17, 1915, in Mpls. She grew up by Lake Harriet, went to Fuller grade school and graduated from Washburn High in Mpls. in 1934, then attended Grinnell and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1940 with a BA in English and a teaching certificate 7-12. Through a friend she met Marshall, who was from Oak Park, IL, got married (1942) and moved there. From 1942-1944, she worked in the Buick war plant in Melrose Park. Then Marshall Jr. was born and she stayed home with him. In 1946, she and her son and husband moved to Mpls. (Jayne's hometown). There, a second child, Marilyn, was born. Her husband, Marshall died suddenly at the age of 56. Soon afterwards, Jayne started working half-time at the Henn. Cty Southdale Library and was there until she was 70. During her lifetime, she remained a firm believer in Christianity. She loved to travel by train, air, or on car trips. She went many times to California and Florida, across Canada, down the East and West coasts of the U.S., once into Mexico and all across the middle of our country. Belonged to Edina, Minnetonka and Lost Spur Country Clubs, at one time. She also loved to go to resorts during the summer. She was very fond of bridge, reading and golf. However, her first love was her children, and they also loved her so much. She enjoyed church activities, weekly dinners out with Marilyn, and going to various places with her son such as, activities at the school where Marshall taught, Patrick Henry. At that school she was named the Mother of the class of 2004. Traveled with Marshall and Marilyn quite a bit. Jayne enjoyed very good health for most of her years. Only the last three were very challenging at times, but she rose above those times, until her death. She resided with her son the last three years; great, great years for both of them. Services are Saturday Dec. 10, at 2:00 pm at Lakewood Chapel; Visitation starting at 1:30 pm.
