Johnson, Betty L. Age 86, of Brooklyn Center, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. "Ed". Betty is survived by her sister, Gwen Dalbotten; children, Wendy (Michael) Johnson, Grant, Nancy (Tony) Grande, and Gary (Sue); grandchildren, Sarah, Melissa, Suzanne, A.J., Kayley, Nick, and Joe; great grandchildren, Ava, Eli, Adlee, Elijah, Evan, Liam, and Olivia. Betty was born in Red Wing, MN and lived there with her parents Chester "Butch" and Marcella Carlson and her sister Gwen. A graduate of Red Wing High School, Betty attended Art School in Milwaukee, WI. She returned to Minnesota working as a mechanical draftsman for a number of production firms. She and her husband Ed were married in 1953 and resided in South Minneapolis before moving to Brooklyn Center to raise a family. Betty volunteered for numerous organizations including League of Women Voters, election judge, Garden City Elementary School, and was a "quilter" for the Community Emergency Assistance Programs (CEAP). Betty was an avid reader and traveled extensively with her husband. She often measured the length of a journey by the number of books it would take. Betty was a loving friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who taught her children and others to sew, knit, quilt, cook/bake, laugh, and play a mean game of cribbage. She will be missed by friends and family but her spirit remains with us. Visitation will be at 10AM, followed by the funeral service at 11AM, Friday August 26th, at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 6000 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Center. Betty will be interred with her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Evans-Nordby 763-533-3000 evansnordby.com
