Baron, Fred Edward age 91, of Golden Valley, with great sorrow we inform our friends, Fred died on Friday, May 23, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by grandparents and parents, Helen & Edward Baron. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Judith; son, Gary (Sandy)Baron; daughter, Susan Miller (Wayne); grandchildren, Mara and Avi Baron and Jordan, Justin and Joshua Miller; sister, Gertrude Baron and niece, Jean Baron. Born in Vienna, he survived the Holocaust after internment in multiple concentration camps in Poland and Germany. After liberation from Bergen Belsen, he was taken on a stretcher by the Swedish Red Cross to recuperate in a Swedish hospital. It was in this hospital that he first met his Wife, Judith, also a Holocaust Survivor. He also reconnected with his Sister, Gertrude, who survived the war in England. With no other surviving family, and having survived the horrors in Europe, he wished to leave and was able to immigrate to the United States. After arriving in New York in 1947, he relocated permanently to Minneapolis which attracted him because of the large Swedish population. Through hard work, he was able to start his own successful businesses. He was often invited to speak to various churches, schools, colleges and other organizations about his experiences and the lessons that should be learned from the Holocaust. His matter-of-fact approach and positive outlook made him a popular and effective educator. Throughout his life he proved to be a loving Husband, astute businessman, and wonderful Father and Grandfather. Remembering him for his intelligence, wit, sense of humor, love of classical music & bridge, and kindness, he will be greatly missed by his loving family and others he touched. The family would like to thank Dr. Stuart Bloom, Allina Hospice Care, Hospice Nurse Diane D., and nurses Ammie Jesse, Beth Petersen, and Kim Kindler for their wonderful care. Also thanking Rabbi Zimmerman and Cantor Abelson of Temple Israel. Funeral service SUNDAY (TODAY) 1 pm at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 2324 Emerson Ave So, Minneapolis.
