Schmidt, Clarice Kay Born on October 14, 1938 in Sioux Falls, SD to Herman and Dorothy Christensen. She died peacefully on April 22, 2014 from complications of dementia. Clarice graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD with a degree in teaching. She and Dennis Schmidt were married in 1966 and they moved to Minneapolis to strike out on their own. She spent most of her 35-year teaching career at Cornelia Elementary in Edina, MN where her kind and gentle manner drew children to her. An avid reader, the shelves in her home were overflowing with hundreds of books. She loved opening the world of reading to children, particularly those struggling with this skill through her patience and encouragement. She was a fan of the Twins and the Gophers and flew her team's flag on game day. She loved attending plays at the Guthrie Theater and going out to dinner with friends. Clarice appreciated the companionship of her dogs and enjoyed walking them with the children in her neighborhood. She will be remembered for her laughter and dedication to her husband, Dennis. Clarice was a member of the UMW of Messiah United Methodist Church and Chapter EF of P.E.O. She is survived by her husband Dennis Schmidt of Wayzata; sister- in-law Betty (William) Lyle of Dublin, OH; a niece Kirsten (Tom) Nelson; great nephew Brennan Nelson of West Branch, IA; cousins Bob (Rita) Elmen, Eloise Elmen, Dorothy Bahnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Betty (Wayne) Sass of Holdrege, NE; plus many dedicated friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roger and her cousin Jim Elmen. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 25 at 3 P.M. at Messiah United Methodist Church, 17805 County Road 6 in Plymouth. Internment will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Medina.
