Maier, Jason Michael age 37, of Medellin, Colombia, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 12th, 2013. He was born to Jacki Richter and Steve Maier, July 10, 1976 in Great Lakes, IL. Jason graduated from Great Mills High, Lexington, MD and received a BA in English from Iowa University in 2000. In 2002, he traveled to Colombia to pursue his passions. Jason was an active and ardent teacher for 11 years. Upon his death, he was a professor at St. George's School, a prestigious university in Medellin, Colombia. There, he was committed to providing excellence and creative education to his students. Jason was adamant about creating a foundation of learning and made sincere connections with many of his students. Jason is survived by his son, Santiago Maier-Naranjo of Bogota Colombia; his two siblings Shane D. Sever Mt Pleasant MI and Christiana (Kristopher) Kapsner Duluth MN; his stepfather, Scott Sever Dollar Bay MI; and his biological parents, Steve (Judy) Maier San Diego CA and Jacki Richter Minneapolis MN. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be presented to La Amistad Ministry, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, MN in Jason's memory. A memorial will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Hopkins, MN on January 4th at 11:30am.
