Eftekhari, Mehdi "A man who has earned an honorable name never dies." (Sa'adi: 13th century Persian poet) Mehdi Eftekhari, Esquire, our precious husband, father and grand- father, left us on August 16, 2013, while surrounded by the love and respect of his family. He was born on July 9, 1920 in Tehran, Iran. He served honorably in the armed forces from 1942 to 1945 and in 1947 he received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Tehran Law School. He married Homa Arbab on September 7, 1951. He went on to become a prominent Iranian lawyer and Legal Counselor to various government programs as modern Iran was built. In 2000, following decades as a member of the Iranian Bar Association, he retired and relocated with his wife to the United States to live close to his children and cherished grand- children. He was a patient, dignified, thoughtful man who lived an extraordinary life witnessing wars and revolutions. But he never lost sight of his enduring belief in education, the equality of men and women, and the rule of law, along with his utter distaste for brutality and cruelty. In 2013, his son and daughters established The Mehdi Eftekhari Fellowship in Law in his honor at the University of Minnesota School of Law as an enduring tribute to Mr. Eftekhari. His loss is mourned by his wife of 62 years, Homa Arbab Eftekhari; daughter, Malekeh Nazie Eftekhari; son, Amir-Homayoun Eftekhari; daughter, Jibil Eftekhari; 6 grandchildren, Sahm & Raz (McGlynn), Reza & Omead (Eftekhari), Yasmin & Amira (Kazeminy); and by his brother, Ali Eftekhari (Olivia) of Cannes, France; his sister Forough Eftekhari (Abdullah Etemad-Amini) of Virginia, USA; and his sister, Touran Eftekhari of Oslo, Sweden. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mansur Eftekhari & his wife Azar Fouladvand of Tehran, Iran. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated in a private ceremony and in lieu of a public memorial funds will be donated to charities of his choice. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers memorials to the Mehdi Eftekhari Scholarship in Law at the University of Minnesota, 612-624-2176. We who loved and respected him his entire life now mourn his passing and remember with pride his enduring legacy in Iran, in the United States, and beyond.
