Sylvia O. Carty

Carty, Sylvia O. Civic & community activist, Sylvia O. Carty, passed Tuesday, July 22, 2013. She was 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Denzil Carty, pastor of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, and daughter, Denise Carty-Bennia, and is survived by her immediate family, Celeste and Jacqueline Carty, Jee-Min Hu (Chi), Larry Brown, and a myriad of family and friends. After retiring as the Director of Day Care at Hallie Q. Brown Center, she volunteered as a classroom assistant at Hayden Heights and Crossroads Elementary Schools and was on the board of many programs including the MN St. Council on Disabilities, the Episcopal Church Home and St. Phillip's Gardens. She is no longer with us, her spirit and strength and wit remain to guide us. Visitation will be Mon., July 29th, 5-7 PM. Service will be Tue., July 30th, 10 AM. Both will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 60 N Kent St., St. Paul, MN 55102.
