Smith, Harold J. Age 81, of Champlin, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2013. He was preceded in death by parents Donald and Sigrid Smith, brothers Gordon, Kenneth, Raymond and Clyde, sisters Edythe Niemi, Carrie Belland, and son-in-law Mark Peterson. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lois, and children Holly Peterson, Craig (Holly) Smith, Betsy (Tom) Doberstein, Terri (Mike) Schanhaar, Peggy (Mark) Olson, Emily Smith, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Harold was born in Walker, MN, raised in North Minneapolis, was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, retired foreman of the Minneapolis Water Department, owner of Fireside Realty. Harold was a successful businessman, jazz buff and amateur musician, senior softball player, a volunteer with Mended Hearts, but most of all a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Harold loved spending time "up north" at his cabin near Laporte, MN. Harold's optimism, sense of humor and love of life will be missed by his family and countless friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, July 28th at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Greenhaven Golf Course, 2800 Greenhaven Road, Anoka. Memorials will be made in Harold's name to his preferred charities.
