Monaghan, Patricia A celebration of the life of Patricia Monaghan, on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 pm, The Carondelet Center at the College of St. Catherine, 1890 Randolph Ave, St. Paul. A memorial for Patricia Monaghan (Feb 15, 1946-Nov 11, 2012) will be held in conjunction with the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology Conference, which Patricia co-founded. Patricia Monaghan was a feminist, scholar, poet, educator, spiritual explorer and practitioner, and an activist. She passed away at her home in Black Earth, Wisconsin after a two-year cancer journey. Patricia lived and worked in the Twin Cities in the 1970's. She was a journalist who also worked at area arts organizations and was politically active. Many of her books have been published by Llewellyn Publications, St. Paul. A professor at the School for New Learning at DePaul University, Patricia taught courses in arts and environmental sciences until 2011. The author of over 20 books of poetry and scholarship on spirituality and goddesses, she considered Ireland her second home and wrote extensively about goddesses and sacred Celtic traditions and places. With her husband Michael McDermott, she co-founded a nonprofit organization, Black Earth Institute, dedicated to the intersections of spirituality, ecology and social justice.
