Haug, Alan D. 64 years, of Minneapolis, passed away February 2, 2013. Survived by sister, Arlene M. Presley, nephews and nieces, Erik Larson, Karla Larson-Wadd, Benjamin Presley, and Tegan Presley; good friend, Polly Vollmar-Heywood; and missed by many other family, friends, and beloved dog Neptune. Preceded in death by other beloved dogs, Nipper, Angus, and Wooly-Bully. Al made significant contributions to the West Bank music scene throughout his life. He was the manager of the Coffeehouse Extempore and organizer of the Minneapolis Folk Festival. He was involved with KFAI (Fresh Air Radio) from its inception and throughout the 80s and 90s, sharing his vast music collection and live tapes as the host of "Walk Right In" and "Folk Roots" radio shows. Al booked music at the New Riverside Cafe six nights a week, with different acts every night. Many well known local and national folk musicians have Al to thank for their first gigs in town. He provided a regular venue where folk musicians could hang their hats and hone their skills. For the last decade of his life, Al played in the " Fat Chance Jug Band", bringing his signature creativity and intelligence to his own music-making. Al was one of the most dedicated behind-the-scenes contributors to the West Bank music scene. Whether or not you knew Al, if you have heard live music on the West Bank in the past 40 years, you have benefited from Al's tireless dedication to local music. A celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date. jugbandbattle.blogspot.com, Al Haug's Facebook page, or New Riverside Cafe Facebook page.
