Janet moved to The Laura Baker School in Fairabault, MN at the age of 7. She and three other children with special needs, lived with their loving housemother, Emma Jacobsen, until they were 18 years old. Janet then moved to The Hammer School in Wayzata, MN, for 10 years, before moving to Davenport, IA. There she spent 30 years living in group homes and participating in the many work opportunities at The Handicap Development Center. In September, 2011, when Janet's physical needs required different care, she moved to The Quarters of Des Peres, in St. Louis, MO, where she lived until her passing. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Walter Rabe of Edina, MN., a brother, Walter, and sister, Louise McCarthy of Davenport, IA. Janet had many challenges in her life, but always had a cheerful, optimistic way about her. It has been said that if anyone ever had a "bad day", they had only to visit Janet, and they would feel better! You touched so many of our lives, dear Janet. Thank you for being YOU! Burial will be in Mpls in the summer. The family requests memorials to your local United Cerebral Palsy affiliate, or to C.A.S.I. (Center for Active Seniors, Inc.) in Davenport, IA.
