McClintock, George D., Jr. Died peacefully on November 27, 2012, in Minneapolis surrounded by his family. Born in Pocatello, Idaho in 1920, Mr. McClintock was the son of George D. McClintock, Sr., and Jessie McCabe McClintock Hauschild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Aileen McHugh McClintock, and his daughter Susan McClintock. Mr. McClintock is survived by six children, Jessie McClintock Kelly of Brooklyn, NY; Catharine McClintock of Edina, MN; George D. McClintock III of Purchase, NY, Jane McClintock Wyatt of Edina, MN, Michael R. McClintock of Larchmont, NY, and Anne McClintock of Medford, MA, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. McClintock grew up in Minneapolis and is a graduate of Washburn High School, Dartmouth College, and Harvard Law School. While at Harvard Mr. McClintock won the prestigious Ames Award for the moot court Competition. During World War II Mr. McClintock was a Second Lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in the South Pacific on the USS Meade as a gunnery officer. Mr. McClintock practiced law for over forty years at Faegre and Benson in Minneapolis. As the firm's managing partner at the time of the 1984 Thanksgiving Fire, he is credited for his leadership during this crisis for the firm. For over fifty years Mr. McClintock served as the Chairman of the Merchants Bank of Rugby, North Dakota, established by his paternal grandfather in 1898. Under Mr. McClintock's leadership the Merchants Bank prospered and continues to serve its community today. Mr. McClintock was also actively involved with the McCabe Company, a grain company established by his maternal grandfather in North Dakota and Minneapolis, until its sale. Involved in the Boy Scouts throughout his life, Mr. McClintock was a member of Troop 33 at Westminster Presbyterian Church and an Eagle Scout. One of his fondest memories was attending the worldwide Boy Scout Jamboree in Holland in 1937. Another favorite memory was participating in the construction of Camp Ajawah in Forest Lake, MN, where his children and grandchildren spent many summers. As an adult Mr. McClintock was on the Viking Council of the Boy Scouts, including a term as its President. Mr. McClintock also served his community in other volunteer capacities. He was the mayor of the Village of Woodland for 16 years, where he lived with his family. He was a member of the Board of Directors of North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis and active with the United Way of Minneapolis, including serving as its Chairman. Mr. McClintock was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of the Convent of the Visitation School. Mr. McClintock was a member of the Minneapolis Club for many years including serving a term as President. He was also a member of the Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, Minnesota, and the Royal Poinciana Country Club in Naples, Florida, where he and his wife Aileen spent many winters. Mr. McClintock enjoyed duck hunting and was a longtime member of the Lake Emily Gun Club. He also loved his time at Encampment Forest on the north shore of Lake Superior. He was intellectually curious, widely read, an avid traveler, and the go-to guy in any crisis. Known by his grandchildren as Gfadda, George McClintock will be remembered as a truly fine man whose love of his family, loyalty to his friends, dedication to his law practice, and service to his community and his country lives on as an example for his children and grandchildren. On Friday, November 30 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm there will be a wake at Washburn-McReavy Mortuary in Edina, MN. On Saturday, December 1 a memorial service will be held at 10:00am at the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel.
