Goering, Charles J. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Charles J. Goering, age 79 of St. Cloud and formerly of Montevideo who passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Goering and Rev. Thomas Knoblach, will concelebrate. Burial with military honors will take place on Thursday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. A vigil service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in St. Cloud. Charles was born on January 16, 1933 in Brandon, Minnesota to Jacob and Hortulana (Kracher) Goering. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Charles married Marita McCullough on November 10, 1962 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Seattle, Washington. He was employed by the Minneapolis Star Tribune for over 25 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. John Cantius Parish. Charles is survived by his wife, Marita; children, Bernadette (Mike) Farrell of Eden Prairie, Mary (Doug) DeGrote Goering of Eagan, Jacob (Nancy) of Red Wing, Msgr. Joseph Goering of Fargo, North Dakota, Jacinta (Steve) Splonkowski of Hawley, Sr. M. Sylvia Goering, MC of Lafayette, Louisiana, Alice Goering of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Maria (Michael) Ashton of Los Angeles, California, John (Tiffany) of Glyndon, Mary (Peter) Vizzini of Honolulu, Hawaii and Charles of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren, Brittany, Josiah, Gregory, Therese, Claire, Stephen, Francesca, Lucia, Damien, Mauricio, Thomas, Anthony, John, Dante, Magdalena, Isabella and Pieta; brothers and sisters, James (Virginia) of Crystal, Johanna Lambertz of Andover, Cyrilla Brixius of St. Cloud, Hortulana (Arthur) VanSloun of Minneapolis, David (Shirley) of Crookston, Edward (Kay) St. Cloud, Daniel (Lorelie), Christella (Dennis) Korkowski of Brandon and Rebecca (Wayne) Chounard of Cold Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cloud; and sister Charlotte Goering.
