Root, Richard Dean age 82, died on April 28, 2016 at Fairview Hospital, Edina, Minnesota. Richard "Dick" Root was born May 10,1933 to Lyman "Mike" Root and Selma "Sally" (Bakken) Root in Austin, MN. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 7625 Chicago Ave S., Richfield, MN. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. and the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Richard graduated from Austin High School, Austin, Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force, where he was trained as a flight mechanic. After his time in the Air Force, he went to work for Republic Airlines and then Northwest Airlines. He was married to Bonnie from 1951-1957, after his divorce he moved in with his parents at Richfield Minnesota. Then in 1973 Richard purchased a home near Lake Milie Lacs, Isle, Minnesota. He retired from Northwest Airlines in 1988. Upon retirement, the lake home became his primary residence. In 2005, he came back to Richfield, to care for his ailing Mother, who passed away November 7, 2008. Richard spent the majority of the summer at his cabin and during the winter months in Richfield. He spent his past time hunting, fishing and reading western books. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Phyllis (Root) Pike, a niece Michele (Pike) Ludescher. He is survived by one nephew, Michael (Jody) Pike, one brother-in-law, Raymond Pike, two great nieces, Hanna and Cassandra Pike, and one great nephew, Michael Allen (Chris) Ludescher and Brian Ludescher. Richard is also survived by two close friends, his cousin and caretaker, Reverend Dean (Dolores) Bakken and Bob Wamberg.
