Owen, Leo E. 83, of Wyoming, Minn., died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the University of Minnesota East Side. He was born March 22, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of George and Nina (Schertz) Owen. Leo graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with honors. He had worked as a chemical engineer for Standard Oil and Amoco until he retired in 1987. On January 1, 1987, Leo married Bette Harlan in Atlanta, GA. Leo is survived by his wife, Bette; one son, Michael (Sharon) Owen of Hartland, Wis.; two daughters, Shari Owen of Chippewa Falls and Linda (Stephen) Herget of Hamilton, Ohio; stepson, Bradley Harlan of Arden Hills, Minn.; stepdaughter, Susan Harlan of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Virginia Graham; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Silas, Arlene, Malachi, Jesse Andrew and Anna; and 2 great-grandchildren, Zane and Zeus. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma (Herring) Owen; two sons, Richard and Kenneth; and his parents. Leo enjoyed reading newspapers and magazines, car racing, woodworking, remodeling, golf and traveling. He had been to all 50 states as well as traveling internationally. He loved camping and fishing and enjoyed jazz and country music. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 30 at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. Burial of cremains will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls at a later date. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of services on Monday, April 30 at the Horan Funeral Home.
