Lamprecht, Larry Walter Age 80 of Champlin passed from this life on April 26, 2016. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Anna of Ogilvie, and sister Elaine Johnson (Roger Gillette). He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan (nee Taff), daughter, Lori Jo (Mike Haasser) of Brooklyn Park, and, sons Chris (Ann) of Ramsey and Lon (Frank Suppa) of Minneapolis, brother Dennis (Jeanette) of Ogilvie. Also survived by extended family and many special sons and daughters that he mentored during his life. Born at home in Ogilvie, Larry joined the U.S. Army at 17; following basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and transfer to Fort Monmouth, NJ, he was assigned to the 97th Signal Battalion and served his tour as a radio specialist in Boblingen, Germany. He and Joan were married in 1958 and raised their family in the Twin Cities and Cheyenne, WY before returning to Minnesota and retiring to Champlin. Larry was a gifted storyteller and often shared stories about the interesting people he met and experiences he had while on the jobsites he'd worked over the years as a proud member of IUEC Local #9. He was a devoted lifelong learner and a patient teacher/mentor having trained a number of apprentices to the trade and, in life at home and in the community volunteered to instruct gun safety training and (being a passionate Title IX supporter) coached summer girls softball helping one team to experience the thrill of a season championship. Once retired Larry and Joan enjoyed traveling the US and to Europe to collect more experiences and stories to share. Larry was an avid outdoorsman and there weren't many things better than wetting a line with a friend or his family. Larry was feared by Prairie Dogs across the state of Wyoming and enjoyed several trips to the west for Elk, Antelope and Muledeer. Favorite memories will include sharing secret spots at the lake for fishing and watching the Twins, Vikings or Lynx on TV and recapping the game later. Being a true Renaissance man, Larry taught himself, wine making, cabinetry, shell reloading and took a lot of pride in engineering and building his own jigs and tools for detailed projects. Dad believed that the only task someone could never accomplish was one that they were afraid to attempt. Visitation Saturday, May 7, 2:00-5:00pm at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH MAPLE GROVE CHAPEL (13745 Reimer Dr.). Memorial Service Wednesday, May 11 at 11:00am (arrival beginning 10:15am) at FORT SNELLING MEMORIAL CHAPEL (intersection of Highways 5, 55 and 62 - watch for signs to Historic Fort Snelling, then on to the chapel).
