Larkin, Eugene D. 89-years old, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the Milton Home, South Bend, from complications due to pneumonia. He was born June 27, 1921 in Wayzata, Minnesota, son of the late John P. and Martha (VandeVere) Larkin. During a 60-year career, Eugene achieved regional and national notoriety as a teacher and practitioner of printmaking with works represented in the permanent collections of the Library of the Congress, the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He credited the support and encouragement of his wife for his decades of artistic success. He was a member of the faculty of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and later the faculty of the University of Minnesota. He is remembered fondly as an inspirational teacher, colleague and friend. He was the author of "Design: the Search For Unity," a text on basic design and visual composition. His many friends remember him as an amazing chef, generous host and delightful dinner companion. Above all, he was a lover of art, a passion he shared with his wife and bequeathed to his children.
